GUY BUTTERY - Live Gauteng - June 2012

Guy Buttery is something of a National treasure” says a leading Cape Town publication. With sell-out performances in the US, Australia, France, Italy and all over Southern Africa, Guy is Africa’s biggest acoustic music export and will be bringing his show to Gauteng this month. His debut album, "When I Grow Up..." was nominated for 'Best Instrumental Album of the Year' and 'Best Newcomer'. This also made him the youngest nominee in the history of the event. He then went onto to win a South African Music Award in 2010 in the ‘Best Instrumental’ category as well as winning two other major National awards that year including the ‘The Standard Bank Golden Ovation Award’ chosen out of over 4600 performers at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown (the world’s 2nd biggest Arts festival after Edinburgh).

Apart from local achievements, Guy’s worldwide scope and recognition rose exponentially post the release of his award winning album “Fox Hill Lane” with invitations to perform all over the globe. Apart from the obvious accolades surrounding winning awards, Guy was met with nothing but glowing reports with the international press for “Fox Hill Lane”. The most noticeable of these being a 3 page spread in the prestigious of Guitar Player Magazine (the World’s biggest guitar related publication) alongside Steve Morse (Deep Purple) and Brian May (Queen).

Following all this, Guy landed a major guitar endorsement deal with UK’s premier guitar maker Roger Bucknall of Fylde Guitars. His live version of “The Book of Right On” went onto feature on a Joanna Newsom cover compilation alongside luminaries such as M. Ward, Billy Bragg and Owen Pallet. Guy was most recently invited to perform at the 2012 South African Music Awards alongside Jimmy Dludlu and Albert Frost where he was broadcast to an audience of over 4 million strong in one of the country's most watched televised events. Here papers cited him as one of South Africa’s “finest exponents of the acoustic guitar.”

Guy returns to Gauteng this month for 3 shows before he makes his way to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.

Quoting the Press:

“… extraordinary…” – Rolling Stone Magazine

“… his music has a subtle grace and power all of its own. Though his technical prowess is also bewildering, Buttery immerses himself entirely into the soul of his guitar, coaxing sonic shapes and forms of such startling originality from it that his instrument acts as a kind of lightning conductor for the sound of another realm.” - The Mail & Guardian

“Guy Buttery’s goal is to stretch the boundaries of fingerstyle guitar to their outermost limits. The most diverse and intriguing fingerstyle artist in recent memory.” - Guitar Player Magazine
